The Instructional Designer works within the centralized Employee Learning Team, managing the full-cycle curriculum development process from analysis of learning needs, development of learning solutions, and evaluation of curriculum effectiveness. Blends expertise in adult learning, advanced technical skills in educational technology, and consultation skills to partner with stakeholders and deliver effective training solutions that meet the organization’s goals and vision. Analyzes learning and performance needs for programs by conducting needs analysis and designs training strategies. Provides learning expertise and supports key learning programs.
**Status:** Casual, Full-Time, Union
**Number of Positions:** 1
**Pay Grade:** 16 ($46.27 to $53.59 per hour, 40 hours per week)
**Location:** Vancouver, BC (hybrid work environment). Please note: This role will need to be available in their regional office up to 40% of the time and requires the ability to travel across BC.
**Reports to**: Leader, Learning
**As an Instructional Designer, you will:**
- Identify organizational learning needs and opportunities, and review training requests based on strategic direction. Work with stakeholders to plan, design, and develop course content including learning activities, assignments, and assessments.
- Encourage knowledge sharing, and support application of learning (e.g., coaching, communities of practice, super users). Work with teams across the organization to integrate and leverage learning initiatives.
- Design and facilitate team development sessions to enhance team functioning and engagement. Provide advice and support to leaders and employees to apply learning and enhance interpersonal effectiveness and performance.
- Recommend and implement learning policies, processes, and practices that facilitate knowledge building and sharing, ensuring alignment with business goals and consistency across programs.
- Establish and track key learning metrics. Monitor internal and external trends and issues.
**Design & Develop**
- Design learning plans by using applied learning theories and concepts for the development and delivery of training.
- Design and build multimedia resources including video, interactive e-learning courses, and webpages.
- Design and develop facilitator guides, train-the-trainer resources, and performance support aids.
- Develop and manage infrastructure and internal offerings in the Learning Management System.
- Design and create course content made for a diverse and inclusive learning environment to enhance participants’ experience.
**Facilitate**
- Facilitate training for employees across the organization by using various delivery methods, learning methodologies, learning applications and technologies. Select, schedule, and coordinate internal instructors, resource materials, training facilities and participant registration.
**Evaluate**
- Evaluate learning programs, instructors, and methods of delivery to ensure they are responsive to learner needs, provide a strong return on investment, and make revisions accordingly.
- Create evaluations for learning outcomes that support organizational goals.
**Knowledge, Skills & Experience you have:**
- 5 years of proven experience in curriculum and instructional design and development for adult learners in instructor-led and e-learning environments.
- Post-secondary education in adult learning and/or instructional design with proven experience in the design, development, and implementation of educational content or a combination of experience and related post-secondary education.
- Proven excellent instructional design portfolio work.
- Knowledge of instructional theories and models (including adult learning theories, ADDIE, Gagne’s nine events of instruction, and Keller’s ARCS-V motivational model).
- Experience with rapid prototyping and agile instructional design models.
- Familiarity with evaluation models (e.g., Kirkpatrick’s Four Levels of Evaluation, Case Success Method, and other learning program evaluation models).
- Excellent technology and software skills including MS Office, learning management systems, and authoring software such as Articulate or Adobe Captivate.
- Advanced level of proficiency using course authoring programs and video editing tools, such as Articulate 360 and Camtasia.
- Experience developing asynchronous and synchronous learning experiences.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize work.
- Superior communication (oral & written) including facilitation and public speaking skills.
- Technical curiosity with a willingness to experiment with new technologies and instructional models.
- Heightened sensitivity to equity, diversity, inclusion (EDI), and accessibility issues and their impact on learning content development, engagement, and learning needs.
- Demonstrated ability to engage, collaborate and influence people and champion change.

You often lead engaging discussions or host Zoom sessions to make learning fun, interactive and engaging, while contributing to achieving organizational goals.
- **Content Creator & Manager** – you are a great listener. You take what you hear and figure out how to design learning content that fits your audience’s needs. You also take care of managing and maintaining the learning management system and various tools used for instructional design.
- **Curious** – you are a lifelong learner. You enjoy learning about new technology and tools. You are curious about people and how they learn or engage with various forms of content. You are intrigued by diverse perspectives and take EDI and accessibility into consideration when planning & building learning courses.
