About the Role

The Learning & Curriculum Specialist is responsible for creating and continuously improving evidence-informed suicide prevention learning materials. This role ensures that our programs and training materials are accurate, engaging, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and aligned with best-practice adult learning principles, suicide prevention, and organizational standards.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Learning & Curriculum Material Development

Design, develop, and maintain suicide prevention training curricula across multiple delivery formats (in-person, virtual, blended, and self-paced learning).

Translate and produce research, best practices, and subject-matter expertise into clear, practical, and learner-centered training materials, including:

Learning objectives

Lesson plans

Trainer/facilitator guides

Participant materials and handouts

Assessments and evaluation tools.

Collaboration & Content Synthesis

Working closely with SMEs to ensure curricula are trauma-informed, inclusive, culturally responsive, and accessible to diverse audiences.

Align training content with organizational standards, accreditation requirements, and evidence-based suicide prevention frameworks.

Review, validate, and update content regularly.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

Incorporate feedback from trainers, learners, and evaluation data to improve curriculum effectiveness.

Support trainers and facilitators by providing guidance on curriculum use and implementation.

Maintain documentation and version control for curriculum materials.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Education or experience in education, adult learning, curriculum development, or a related field.

Demonstrated experience producing training materials, lesson plans, or structured learning resources.

Understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design best practices.

Excellent written communication and content organization skills.

Ability to collaborate effectively with subject-matter experts and cross-functional teams.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and accuracy.

Experience with learning management systems (LMS) or e-learning development tools.

Eager to learn, grow, and contribute within a mission-driven organization.

Other experience considered an asset

Working in suicide prevention, mental health promotion, or crisis intervention.

Familiarity with trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches.

Experience developing content for diverse audiences (e.g., community members, professionals, youth-serving organizations).

Knowledge of evaluation methods and continuous quality improvement.

Competencies

Ability to organize and coordinate curriculum development project resources, stakeholders, and activities with varied priorities.

Working Conditions

This role involves regular exposure to sensitive and potentially distressing content related to suicide and mental health.
